Description
Three graduated strands, approximately 32, 36, and 38 inches in length, make up this Ni’ihau shell lei in the kipona style, white Momi and Kamoa shells banded with Kahelelani turban shells in red, yellow, green-tan, black, and burgundy. The colored shells gather in clusters spaced along each strand, so the pattern shifts wherever the strands lie together. A bumpy Poleholeho cowrie secures the strand ends. Worn, the graduated lengths keep the three strands in separate tiers, each showing its own run of pattern.
