Description

This three-strand Ni’ihau shell lei is strung in the pikake style, its momi shells in the soft off-white lenalena coloring, some carrying faint golden striping. The ends gather into an ‘apu’upu’u bumpy cowrie clasp shell of approximately 23 by 18 millimeters. The lei runs about 38 inches in overall length for a drop of nearly 19 inches when worn. This lei was strung entirely by hand in Hawaii from shells gathered on Ni’ihau.
