Mutton fat white jade, creamy and even in tone, is carved into this large pendant as a cluster of pumpkins on a leafy vine, the stems and leaves cut in openwork relief with what appears to be a blossom opening beside the fruit. Both faces of the stone are worked, and the piece hangs from a 14K yellow gold bail. In Chinese carving the pumpkin, round and heavy with seeds, is a symbol of abundance and prosperity. The pendant runs close to 70mm in length and weighs 57.3 grams.
