Description
A Qing era Chinese carving of a bat over a cluster of fruit in mutton fat jade, the pale stone marked with warm russet that runs through the carved bat and leafy stems while the body of the fruit stays creamy white. In Chinese art the bat is a symbol of good fortune and blessings, one of the most loved good-luck motifs among Qing carvers. A small hole drilled beneath the fruit’s stem lets the carving thread as a pendant. From a Hawaii-based collection, it measures close to 40mm long by 46mm wide and 22mm thick, and weighs 56.8 grams.
