Double Strand Ni’ihau Shell Lei Roselani Momi Kahelelani Necklace 36 Inch

Description

A double strand Ni’ihau shell lei of approximately 36 inches, strung in the Roselani style with white momi shells set off by sections of pink kahelelani spaced along both strands. The momi lie in a dense, even rope with the tiny shells overlapping in a regular pattern, and the pink kahelelani return at intervals down the full length. The two strands meet at a poleholeho closure in the Apu’upu’u cowrie variety, with a finely pebbled surface. Kahelelani are the smallest of the Ni’ihau shells and the hardest to gather, pierce, and string, and they are named for an early chief of Ni’ihau.
