Description
A three-strand Ni’ihau shell lei strung in the poe’poe paha style, each tiny momi shell nested into the next so the strands read as solid twisted cords of shell. The shells are the momi dove variety in Lenalena Kua Ele coloring, yellow to off-white with dark-dotted tips scattering fine specks along every strand, and the three strands gather at a single bumpy apu’upu’u cowrie poleholeho, the lei’s only fitting, shell start to finish. It runs approximately 41 inches, so the strands fall in a long tiered drape. Ni’ihau shell lei are gathered and strung entirely by hand. This lei was strung entirely by hand in Hawaii from shells gathered on Ni’ihau.
