Description

This Ming’s Hawaii brooch pairs a beautifully detailed bird in a flowering tree with a translucent yellow-green jadeite backing. Hand engraving brings definition to the feathers, blossoms and branches of the openwork yellow gold mounting, which is unstamped and has tested as 14K. The jadeite forms a slender navette plaque measuring approximately 62.8 x 28.7 x 3.0 mm. The complete brooch weighs approximately 17.3 grams and has a hinged pin stem on the reverse. Soft green shows through the open spaces in the gold, giving the intricate scene a pleasing sense of depth.
