Translucent white jade, creamy and pale with a soft russet shading along one edge, forms this Chinese carved plaque pendant, approximately 1.9 by 1.4 inches and 24.8 grams. The Double Happiness character is cut clean through the stone in pierced openwork, and both faces carry the carving, so the plaque reads the same from either side. Double Happiness is a traditional Chinese symbol of love and marital joy, a motif long tied to weddings and good wishes.
