Description
Two cats rest together on a lily pad in this antique Qing era Chinese carving of translucent mutton fat jade, from a Hawaii collection held privately since 1930. The larger cat curls close around its smaller companion, tail sweeping along the pad, and the underside is finished as the leaf itself, with defined ribs running out from the stem. The stone is a soft, even white with the natural inclusions of mutton fat jade, and light passes gently through the body of the carving. It measures approximately 2.4 by 1.7 by 0.7 inches and weighs about 47.8 grams.
