Description

An antique American Waltham pocket watch in multi-color 14K gold, its hunter’s case engraved edge to edge with an eight-point star and scrollwork, set with an applied rose gold horseshoe and shield among flowers and leaves in green and yellow gold. Behind the lid, the fancy porcelain dial pairs a lavender filigree ring and cobalt dots with blued steel hands, over a 7-jewel manual movement dating to 1898. It comes on its approximately 54-inch 14K yellow gold rope chain with a blue enamel slide set with turquoise and garnet and twin snake-chain tassels, along with a recent gemologist appraisal. Multicolor gold hunter cases are a collecting category of their own among American pocket watches, and the decoration here runs across both covers rather than the front alone.
