Description
This Ni’ihau shell lei gathers six strands of cream Laiki rice shells into a rope of approximately 60 inches, a length that can wrap the neck several times or hang in one long sweep. The shells carry the warm off-white Lenalena coloring, with the tiny shells strung close so each strand reads as an unbroken cord. All six strands pass through small russet striped spacer shells on either side of the cowrie closure, one face of the cowrie showing its ribbed opening and the other a pebbled dome. This lei was strung entirely by hand in Hawaii from shells gathered on Ni’ihau.
This item was made in Hawaii, and is at least 80% Niihau shell. The actual percentage of Niihau shell in this item is 100%.
